🌼 Positive Ageing Week: Celebrating Experience, Connection & Wellbeing 💜
This Positive Ageing Week, Donegal Women’s Centre celebrates the experience, wisdom, achievements, and valuable contributions of older people in our communities.
Ageing is a natural part of life, and every stage brings opportunities for growth, connection, learning, and new experiences. Positive ageing is about recognising the strengths and possibilities that come with getting older, while ensuring that people have the support and opportunities they need to live fulfilling lives.
🌼 Celebrating Experience & Wisdom
Older people bring a wealth of knowledge, experience, skills, and stories to our communities.
Their contributions can be found everywhere — in families, workplaces, community groups, voluntary organisations, friendships, and local initiatives.
Sharing experiences between generations can help us learn from one another, strengthen relationships, and build a greater sense of community.
💜 Staying Connected
Social connection is an important part of wellbeing at every age.
Maintaining friendships, spending time with family, joining community activities, volunteering, or simply having regular conversations with others can help people feel connected and valued.
No one should feel invisible or excluded because of their age.
Creating welcoming spaces where older people can participate, contribute, and build relationships benefits the whole community.
🌿 Ageing Well
Positive ageing can look different for everyone.
For some, it might mean staying physically active. For others, it could involve learning something new, enjoying a creative hobby, spending time outdoors, volunteering, or simply making more time for the things that bring joy and purpose.
Small steps can support wellbeing, including:
- 🌿 Staying as active as feels comfortable
- 💜 Maintaining social connections
- 📚 Learning and trying new things
- 🌼 Making time for hobbies and interests
- 🤝 Getting involved in the community
- 🧘♀️ Taking care of mental and emotional wellbeing
- 💜 Asking for support when it is needed
There is no single way to age well. What matters is finding what brings meaning, connection, and enjoyment to your life.
🤝 Challenging Ageism
Positive ageing also means challenging stereotypes about getting older.
Age should never determine someone’s value, potential, or ability to contribute. Older people deserve the same opportunities to participate, make choices, learn, work, connect, and enjoy life as people of every generation.
By promoting respect and inclusion, we can help create communities where everyone feels valued.
🌍 Building an Age-Inclusive Community
A truly inclusive community is one where people of all ages have a place.
This Positive Ageing Week, let’s celebrate older people, listen to their experiences, recognise their achievements, and create opportunities for meaningful connection between generations.
Every age brings value. Every story matters. Every person deserves to feel included and supported. 💜🌼
