🎀 Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Know Your Normal
Taking care of your breast health doesn’t have to be complicated.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a helpful reminder to take a few minutes to get to know your body. By regularly looking at and feeling your breasts, you can become familiar with what is normal for you and notice if anything changes.
💗 What should you be aware of?
Everyone’s breasts are different, and they can naturally change throughout your life. However, it’s important to be aware of any new or unusual changes, including:
- A new lump or swelling in your breast or armpit
- A change in the size or shape of your breast
- Changes to the skin, such as dimpling, puckering or redness
- Changes to the nipple, including a new inversion or unusual discharge
- Persistent pain or discomfort that is unusual for you
🔎 Know your normal. Notice any changes.
You don’t need to follow a complicated routine or check your breasts at a particular time. Simply becoming familiar with how your breasts normally look and feel can help you recognise changes.
Most breast changes are not cancer. However, if you notice a new or unusual change that doesn’t feel right for you, it’s important not to ignore it. Speak to your GP or another healthcare professional and have it checked.
Getting a change checked doesn’t mean that something is wrong — but it can give you reassurance and, when necessary, help you get the right support and care as early as possible.
