💜 International Day of Older Persons: Connection, Dignity and Support
Today, we celebrate older people and the contribution, experience, knowledge and wisdom they bring to our families and communities.
Growing older should never mean growing isolated. Connection, friendship, dignity and support matter at every stage of life. 🌷
International Day of Older Persons is an opportunity to recognise the valuable role older people play in our communities, while also reflecting on the importance of ensuring that everyone can age with dignity, independence and a strong sense of belonging.
💜 Staying connected matters
Loneliness and social isolation can affect people at any age, but staying connected becomes particularly important as we grow older. Simple acts of kindness and connection can make a meaningful difference.
A phone call, a cup of tea, a visit, an invitation to join an activity, or simply asking “How are you?” can help someone feel remembered, valued and included.
Across Ireland, organisations such as ALONE and Age Action provide valuable information, services and supports to help older people live with greater independence, remain connected and feel supported in their communities.
🌸 Supporting women at every stage of life
At Donegal Women’s Centre, we believe that every woman deserves to feel valued, heard and supported throughout every stage of her life.
Our communities are stronger when women have opportunities to connect, participate, learn, share experiences and access the support they need.
Today is a reminder that creating inclusive communities is something we can all contribute to — not just on International Day of Older Persons, but throughout the year.
💜 Check in. Reach out. Stay connected.
Sometimes, making a difference starts with something very simple.
Check in on an older relative, friend, neighbour or member of your community.
Take time to listen. Share a conversation. Offer support. Make space for connection.
🌸 Let’s build communities where older people feel seen, valued, respected and included — today and every day.
