💜 Liver Cancer Awareness Month: Know the Signs
This Liver Cancer Awareness Month, we’re raising awareness of the importance of looking after your liver health and knowing the signs that something may not be right.
The liver is one of the body’s most important organs, carrying out hundreds of essential functions that help keep us healthy. Liver cancer can sometimes cause few noticeable symptoms in its early stages, which is why being aware of changes in your body is important.
🔎 Know the signs
Some symptoms that can be associated with liver cancer include:
- Unexplained weight loss or loss of appetite
- Feeling unusually tired or weak
- Swelling or pain in the abdomen
- Feeling sick or experiencing persistent nausea
- Yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes (jaundice)
- Changes in bowel movements or urine
- A lump or a feeling of fullness in the upper abdomen
⚠️ Symptoms can have many causes
It’s important to remember that these symptoms can be caused by many different conditions and do not necessarily mean you have liver cancer.
However, if you notice a change that is unusual for you, particularly if it is persistent or getting worse, it’s important to speak with your GP or another healthcare professional. Getting symptoms checked can provide reassurance and, where necessary, help ensure you receive appropriate care.
💜 Look after your liver health
Liver Cancer Awareness Month is also an opportunity to learn more about liver health and understand some of the factors that can affect it.
Taking care of your overall health, attending recommended health checks and seeking medical advice when something doesn’t feel right are all important parts of looking after yourself.
Know your body. Listen to your body. Don’t ignore changes.
