🕊️ International Day of Non-Violence: Choose Respect, Choose Equality
Today, we stand together for a world where violence is never the answer — and where everyone has the right to live with safety, dignity and respect.
International Day of Non-Violence is an opportunity to reflect on the importance of peaceful communities and our shared responsibility to challenge violence, abuse and inequality wherever we see them.
💜 Non-violence starts with how we treat one another
Creating a culture of non-violence begins with everyday actions.
Listening to others, showing kindness, respecting boundaries and choices, and treating people with dignity can all help create healthier and safer relationships.
It also means challenging attitudes and behaviours that excuse, minimise or normalise violence and abuse.
For women and girls experiencing domestic, sexual or gender-based violence, you are not alone. Reaching out for support can be an important first step, and there are organisations and services available to provide information, guidance and support.
🌸 We can all help create safer communities
There are things each of us can do to help build communities where everyone feels safe, respected and valued:
- Speak up when you see harmful or disrespectful behaviour
- Listen without judgement when someone chooses to share their experience
- Respect boundaries, choices and consent
- Support people who may be experiencing violence or abuse
- Challenge attitudes that normalise or excuse abuse
- Create safe spaces where everyone can feel heard, respected and included
Small actions can contribute to wider change. By refusing to accept violence as normal and by promoting respect and equality, we can help create a culture where everyone can live free from fear.
🕊️ Supporting women in our community
At Donegal Women’s Centre, we believe in supporting women, promoting equality and working towards a community where every woman can live free from violence, abuse and fear.
We are committed to providing information, support and services that help women feel empowered, connected and supported.
If you or someone you know is experiencing violence or abuse, reaching out for support is not a sign of weakness. You deserve to be safe, respected and heard.
