🤱💗 National Breastfeeding Week: Supporting Every Mother’s Feeding Journey
This National Breastfeeding Week, we’re celebrating breastfeeding and recognising the importance of supporting every mother in her feeding journey.
Breastfeeding can be a wonderful and rewarding experience, but it can also come with challenges. Every mother and baby is different, and there is no one-size-fits-all feeding journey.
What matters most is that mothers have access to the information, encouragement and support they need to make choices that are right for themselves and their baby.
🌸 A few gentle reminders for new and expectant mothers
💗 Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Feeding can take time to learn, and professional support can make a real difference.
💗 Give yourself time to find what works for you and your baby. Every feeding journey is unique.
💗 Make informed choices. Feeding your baby should be a supported and informed decision, without pressure or judgement.
💗 Be kind to yourself. Your physical and emotional wellbeing matters too.
💗 Whatever your feeding journey looks like, you deserve support. Whether breastfeeding, expressing breast milk, combination feeding or formula feeding, every mother should feel supported and respected.
💗 Support is available
If you are experiencing difficulties with feeding, you don’t have to work through them alone. Speaking with your midwife, public health nurse, lactation consultant or GP can provide reassurance, information and practical support.
Asking for help is not a sign that you are struggling to cope — sometimes a little guidance and encouragement can make all the difference.
🤱 Supporting mothers means supporting wellbeing
The early days of motherhood can bring many emotions, changes and challenges. Having people around you who listen, understand and offer support without judgement can make this important stage of life feel a little easier.
At Donegal Women’s Centre, we believe that women deserve to feel informed, supported and valued throughout every stage of their lives, including pregnancy, motherhood and beyond.
We’re here to provide information, support and services that help women connect with their community and look after their health and wellbeing.
💗 No mother should feel alone on her feeding journey.
This National Breastfeeding Week, let’s celebrate the different journeys mothers take and help create a culture where every mother feels supported, informed and free from judgement.
Be kind. Listen. Support. Encourage.
