Supporting, empowering and advocating for women in Donegal for over 35 years

Donegal Women’s Centre was founded with a simple but powerful purpose: to create a safe, confidential and supportive space where women can access the care, respect and understanding they deserve. Over the years, the Centre has become a trusted cornerstone in the community, a place where women can seek support during difficult times, feel heard without judgement and connect with services that promote emotional, physical and social wellbeing.

Our journey began in response to the growing need for a dedicated women’s service in Donegal, one that recognised the unique challenges women face, from mental health and wellbeing to relationships, family pressures, sexuality, crisis situations and life transitions. What started as a small local initiative has grown into a holistic service that supports thousands of women each year, guided by compassion, integrity and community partnership.

At the heart of Donegal Women’s Centre is our commitment to confidentiality, dignity and empowerment. We believe every woman, regardless of age, background or circumstance—has the right to access professional, non-judgemental support. Our team of counsellors, nurses, therapists, educators and volunteers work collaboratively to create an environment where women can heal, learn, grow and take the steps they need toward a safer, healthier, more confident future.

Over the years, we have expanded our services to reflect the evolving needs of women in Donegal. Today, the Centre offers professional trauma informed counselling and psychotherapy, sexual health services, wellbeing and education programmes, post crisis supports, advocacy, community outreach and information provision. Whether a woman is navigating grief, trauma, relationship difficulties, reproductive decisions, sexual health concerns or simply seeking a listening ear, our doors remain open.

We are proud to work alongside community partners, healthcare professionals, local organisations and national support services to ensure every woman who comes to us receives the care she needs. As a registered charity, we rely on the generosity of funders, supporters and the wider Donegal community to help sustain and grow our work.

While much has changed since our early days, one thing has remained constant: our unwavering commitment to supporting women with respect, confidentiality and compassion. Donegal Women’s Centre continues to evolve, but our mission endures, to be a safe and empowering space where women can find support, voice and strength.

This is our story. And every woman who walks through our doors becomes part of it.
