Control Can Hide Behind a Screen
Could your phone, your apps, or your online accounts be used as tools of control?
Technology is a part of everyday life, helping us connect, communicate, and access information. But when technology is used to monitor, intimidate, threaten, or isolate someone, it can become a tool of coercive control.
Technology-Facilitated Abuse is a modern form of abuse where digital devices, online platforms, and connected technology are used to gain power and control over another person.
It can look like:
📱 Constantly checking your phone or demanding access to your messages.
🔑 Insisting on passwords or taking control of your online accounts.
📍 Tracking your location or monitoring your movements without your consent.
💬 Sending threatening, aggressive, or controlling messages.
🚫 Using social media or online platforms to isolate you from friends, family, or support.
👀 Stalking, monitoring, or harassing you online.
The screen may hide the abuse, but the harm is real.
Everyone deserves privacy, safety, and control over their own digital life. Technology should empower people — not be used to create fear, pressure, or control.
If you or someone you know is experiencing Technology-Facilitated Abuse, Donegal Women’s Centre provides confidential, trauma-informed support to women across County Donegal.
