Dedicated Domestic Violence Trauma Counselling Service

Domestic violence continues to be a significant issue in Ireland. Domestic violence can be physical abuse, psychological abuse, sexual abuse, economic abuse. Violence against women in Ireland cuts across all social, cultural and economic backgrounds.

The domestic violence counselling service is available to women in Co. Donegal who have experienced domestic violence (current / recent or past) and need to deal with the trauma and trauma symptoms arising from chronic abuse and violence and with the experience of loss connected to separation / relationship breakdown and to learn new ways of moving forward with their lives.

The Donegal Womens Domestic Violence Service provide crisis intervention, advocacy, and support information.

You may:

• Self-refer
• Be referred by your GP or any other health professional

Referrals From:

• Other statutory and voluntary organisations e.g. MABS, Family Resource Centres and Community Development Projects, especially those where we provide our outreach counselling.
• Donegal Women’s Domestic Violence Service (DWDVS) – we have a joint policy on two-way referral protocols and interagency working.
