Digital Control Is Still Domestic Abuse
Technology is part of our everyday lives, helping us communicate, work, and stay connected. But when technology is used to monitor, intimidate, threaten, isolate, or manipulate someone, it can become a tool of abuse.
Digital control is a form of Technology-Facilitated Abuse and coercive control. It can involve using phones, online accounts, apps, and other digital tools to create fear, pressure, or restrict someone’s freedom.
It can include:
📱 Checking your phone, messages, or online activity without your consent.
📍 Tracking your location or movements.
🔑 Demanding access to passwords or private accounts.
💬 Sending controlling, threatening, or intimidating messages.
🚫 Using technology to isolate you from friends, family, or sources of support.
👀 Monitoring your digital life and creating fear around your online activity.
These behaviours are not about love, care, or protection. They are about power and control.
Everyone deserves to feel safe — not watched.
Connected — not controlled.
Recognising the signs of digital control is an important step towards understanding abuse and seeking support.
