Donegal Women’s Centre Marks International Women’s Day 2026, Highlighting Over 36 Years of Support and Empowerment
Donegal Women’s Centre is proud to celebrate International Women’s Day 2026, reflecting on more than 36 years of supporting, empowering, and advocating for women across Donegal. Founded with the vision of creating a safe, confidential, and supportive space, the Centre has grown into a trusted community cornerstone, providing women with professional care, guidance, and connection throughout life’s challenges.
From its beginnings as a local initiative responding to the growing need for dedicated women’s services, Donegal Women’s Centre has continually evolved to meet the changing needs of women in the region. Today, the Centre offers trauma informed counselling and psychotherapy, sexual health services, wellbeing and education programmes, post crisis support, advocacy, community outreach, and information provision. Whether navigating grief, trauma, relationship difficulties, reproductive decisions, or sexual health concerns, women across Donegal can rely on the Centre for confidential, non judgemental support.
At the heart of the Centre’s work is a commitment to confidentiality, dignity, and empowerment. Each woman who walks through its doors is met with respect and professional care, enabling her to heal, grow, and gain confidence. Supported by a dedicated team of psychotherapists, counsellors, nurses, therapists, educators, and volunteers, Donegal Women’s Centre fosters an environment where women are heard, understood, and encouraged to reach their full potential.
As a registered charity, Donegal Women’s Centre is governed by a voluntary Board of Directors, operating in line with the Charities Regulator Governance Code. The Board ensures accountability, financial transparency, strategic oversight, and risk management, while day to day operations are led by Manager Mary Herlihy with the support of accounting and admin staff and volunteers. The Centre relies on the generosity of funders, supporters, and the local community to sustain and grow its vital services.
Donegal Women’s Centre’s core values of confidentiality, respect, inclusivity, professionalism, empowerment, and safety underpin every aspect of its work. These principles guide its ongoing commitment to advocate for women’s rights, connect them to essential services, and provide safe and compassionate support across all stages of life.
This International Women’s Day, Donegal Women’s Centre reaffirms its mission to be a safe, empowering space for every woman in Donegal. For further information about the Centre, its services, or ways to support its work, visit www.donegalwomenscentre.ie.
