Every Child Deserves a Safe Home
Domestic abuse affects every member of a family, leaving physical, emotional, psychological, and social scars. While much attention is often focused on the adult experiencing abuse, it is crucial to recognize the profound impact it has on children. Growing up in an environment filled with fear, control, or violence can disrupt a child’s sense of safety, wellbeing, and self-worth, sometimes carrying into adulthood.
Children living in abusive households often learn to live in survival mode. They may struggle with anxiety, trust issues, or emotional regulation, and their ability to form healthy relationships can be affected long-term. No child should have to bear these burdens.
At Donegal Women’s Centre, our Trauma-Informed Psychotherapy and Counselling Service supports women who have experienced abuse — whether current, recent, or historical. We understand that abuse is complex and far-reaching, affecting both women and children in unique ways. Our services provide a safe, confidential space to process experiences, rebuild confidence, and regain control over life.
Our trained team works alongside women to support recovery, resilience, and hope. By supporting mothers, we also create pathways for children to experience safety, stability, and nurturing at home. Every child deserves a secure environment where they can grow and thrive, and every woman deserves understanding, compassion, and support.
