Free, Confidential Sexual Health Checks for Young Women in Donegal
Looking after your sexual health is an important part of looking after yourself — but knowing where to go for advice, testing or reassurance can sometimes feel difficult, particularly if you are worried about cost, privacy or being judged.
A free, confidential drop-in sexual health clinic is available for women aged 17–25 across Donegal, offering a safe and welcoming space to access sexual health checks, information and support.
The clinic takes place every Monday from 4:30pm to 7:30pm at the Donegal Women’s Centre, Port Road, Letterkenny, Co. Donegal, F92 X892, except on Bank Holidays.
There is no appointment necessary. Simply drop in during the clinic hours.
Sexual health checks are a normal and responsible part of looking after your health. Many sexually transmitted infections (STIs) can have no obvious symptoms, meaning someone may feel completely well while still having an infection. Getting checked can provide reassurance, help identify an infection early and, where treatment is needed, allow you to access appropriate care.
The clinic also provides an opportunity to ask questions in confidence. Whether you are worried about a possible STI, have had unprotected sex, have noticed a change in your sexual health, or simply want to know more about testing and safer sex, you do not have to feel embarrassed about seeking advice.
For some young women, the biggest barrier to accessing sexual healthcare is simply taking that first step. A drop-in service can make that step easier by removing the need to arrange an appointment in advance.
It is also important to remember that seeking a sexual health check does not mean that you have done anything wrong. Sexual health is healthcare, and getting tested can be a positive way of taking responsibility for your own wellbeing and protecting both yourself and your sexual partners.
Confidentiality is particularly important when accessing sexual health services. If you have concerns about privacy or what happens during a check, you can ask the healthcare professional about confidentiality and the process before proceeding. You should never feel pressured to undergo a test or examination without understanding what is involved.
For women aged 17–25 living across Donegal, the Monday clinic offers an accessible opportunity to get information, advice and sexual health support in a confidential setting.
