International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition 🕯️
Today, Donegal Women’s Centre joins communities around the world in remembering the millions of lives affected by the transatlantic slave trade and recognising the lasting impact and legacy of slavery.
This important day provides an opportunity to reflect on the suffering and injustices experienced by those who were enslaved, while also honouring the courage, resistance, and resilience of the people who fought against oppression and contributed to the movement for freedom, equality, and human rights.
The remembrance of the slave trade and its abolition reminds us that the struggle for justice and dignity continues. It encourages us to reflect on the importance of challenging racism, discrimination, and inequality in all forms, and to work towards communities where every person is treated with respect and has the opportunity to thrive.
At Donegal Women’s Centre, we are committed to promoting equality, inclusion, and human rights. We believe in creating supportive and welcoming spaces where diversity is valued, voices are heard, and everyone is empowered to participate fully in society.
By remembering the past, we strengthen our commitment to building a fairer and more inclusive future for all.
🕊️ We remember. We reflect. We stand for equality and human dignity.
