October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month 💜
Every October, Domestic Violence Awareness Month provides an important opportunity to raise awareness, encourage conversations and remind women experiencing domestic violence that support is available.
At Donegal Women’s Centre, we have been delivering trauma-informed services and programmes to women across Donegal since 1989. For more than three decades, our Centre has provided a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment where women can be heard, supported and treated with dignity and respect.
Domestic Violence Can Take Many Forms
Domestic violence is not always visible. It can take many forms and can affect women from all backgrounds and circumstances.
For women living through domestic violence, reaching out for support can feel difficult. There may be fear, uncertainty or simply not knowing where to begin.
At Donegal Women’s Centre, you do not have to have all the answers before you contact us. Sometimes, having a safe space to talk and someone who will listen can be an important first step.
We are here to listen. 💜
A Safe Space to Talk
If you are experiencing domestic violence, or if you are concerned about someone you know, Donegal Women’s Centre is here to provide support in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment.
Our supports include:
💜 Counselling services
💜 A listening ear and a safe space to talk
💜 Trauma-informed programmes and supports
💜 Support for women experiencing trauma, both during difficult circumstances and as they begin to heal afterwards
Our approach is centred on the individual woman. We understand that everyone’s circumstances and experiences are different, and support should respect each woman’s needs, choices and pace.
Support During and After Difficult Circumstances
The effects of domestic violence and trauma do not necessarily end when circumstances change. Women may need support while they are going through a difficult situation, and they may also need support afterwards as they process what has happened and begin to move forward.
That is why trauma-informed support is at the heart of the work we do.
We aim to provide an environment where women feel safe to speak, where their experiences are heard without judgement and where they can access support at a pace that feels right for them.
Reaching Out Can Be a First Step
You do not need to know exactly what to say.
You do not need to explain everything at once.
Sometimes, the first step is simply making contact and knowing that there is someone there to listen.

Please Help Us Raise Awareness 💜
During Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we encourage everyone to help raise awareness of the support available to women in Donegal.
Please share this information with your family, friends and community. Someone you know may need to see it — even if they have never spoken about what they are experiencing.
A shared post, a conversation or simply knowing where support is available could help someone take that important first step.
Donegal Women’s Centre is here to listen and support women at their own pace. 💜
