September Is World Suicide Prevention Month
Teenagers Don’t Always Have the Words
Sometimes emotional pain doesn’t look like sadness.
For teenagers and young people, struggling can show up in different ways. You might notice:
- Anger or irritability
- Withdrawal from family or friends
- Changes in sleep
- Loss of interest in things they usually enjoy
- Anxiety or constant worry
- Suddenly becoming very quiet
These changes don’t always mean something is seriously wrong—but they are worth noticing.
Notice the changes.
Start the conversation.
Listen without judgement.
You don’t need to have the perfect words. Let them know that they can talk to you, that their feelings matter, and that they won’t be judged for what they are experiencing.
Children and young people need to know that someone is there, someone cares, and someone is listening.
Sometimes, simply asking “How are you really doing?” can open the door to a conversation that matters.
The Donegal Women’s Centre is here for you.
We offer:
- Counselling
- Psychotherapy
- Domestic Abuse Support
- A listening ear
If you or someone you know is struggling, please reach out.
You don’t have to face life alone. Help is here.
