September Is World Suicide Prevention Month
The Conversation You’re Afraid to Have Could Save a Life
Sometimes, we hesitate to ask the question because we’re afraid of saying the wrong thing.
We might worry about making things worse, not knowing what to say, or being unable to help.
But you don’t need the perfect words.
Sometimes, the most important thing you can do is simply start the conversation.
Ask.
Listen.
Stay.
If someone you care about seems different, withdrawn, overwhelmed, or not themselves, take a moment to check in.
Ask how they are.
Listen without judgement.
Give them space to talk.
Let them know they don’t have to face everything alone.
A simple conversation, a moment of kindness, or letting someone know “I’m here for you” can make a meaningful difference.
You may not be able to fix everything they are going through—but you can remind them that they are not alone.
The Donegal Women’s Centre is here for you.
We offer:
- Counselling
- Psychotherapy
- Domestic Abuse Support
- A listening ear
If you or someone you know is struggling, please reach out.
You don’t have to face life alone. Help is here.
