You Can’t Control the News, But You Can Care for Your Wellbeing
In a world where we are constantly connected to what is happening around us, it can sometimes feel like there is no escape from difficult news and uncertainty. Every headline, update, and conversation can add to feelings of worry, stress, or emotional exhaustion.
While we cannot control everything happening in the world, we can take steps to care for ourselves and protect our own wellbeing.
It’s Okay to Step Back
Staying informed is important, but it is also important to recognise when we need a break. Constant exposure to distressing news can leave us feeling overwhelmed and can affect how we think, feel, and cope with everyday life.
Taking a step back does not mean that you do not care. It means you are recognising your own needs and creating space to recharge.
Allowing yourself time away from the news, social media, or difficult conversations can help you reconnect with a sense of calm and balance.
Focus on What Helps You Feel Grounded
When the world feels uncertain, small moments of care can make a big difference.
Self-care can look different for everyone. It might mean:
- Taking time to rest and slow down.
- Spending time outdoors or connecting with nature.
- Talking to someone you trust.
- Enjoying activities that bring comfort or joy.
- Practising mindfulness, breathing exercises, or moments of quiet reflection.
- Creating healthy boundaries around what you take in each day.
Small acts of kindness towards yourself can help you feel more supported during challenging times.
Be Gentle With Yourself
It is normal to experience a range of emotions when faced with uncertainty. You may feel worried, sad, frustrated, or tired. These feelings are part of being human, and acknowledging them can be an important step towards caring for your mental and emotional health.
Remember that you do not have to have all the answers or carry every worry at once. Taking things one day at a time can help make difficult moments feel more manageable.
Support Is Available
During times when life feels heavy, having a safe space to talk can make a difference.
At Donegal Women’s Centre, we are here to listen, support, and provide a safe and welcoming space for women. Through our trauma-informed services and programmes, we offer support that recognises each woman’s individual experiences and needs.
You do not have to face difficult times alone.
Protect Your Peace
You cannot control every headline or everything happening in the world, but you can choose to care for yourself.
Be kind to yourself. Take time for what helps you feel grounded. Reach out when you need support.
Your wellbeing matters.
